"The Federal Convention", also known as the "Constitutional Convention" met in Philadelphia during the period of time from May through September 1787 for the stated purpose of amending the first constitution of the United States, "The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union.
Expecting their debate to become raucous and knowing it would be impossible to amend the current constitution, the delegates voted unanimously to work behind closed doors and to keep the public at bay while they developed a a new constitution. Madison and others were aware that it would be necessary to create a new document that enabled the federal government to perform those deeds that should be performed by a central government for the benefit of all.
In today's 21st century, television makes it possible to eavesdrop on either the US Senate or the House of Representatives as they operate. Owensby has made it possible for us to see how the politicians operated two centuries ago, and allows us to witness the intricacies that led to the creation of the United States Constitution.
