Stargazer and his mind-meld Tarella, along with
Aalonnie and the four wardens begin preparations to kill
the Scog. Stargazer believes the task is part of his
destiny. Besides, he's eager to test the limits of Tarella's
enhance. Unfortunately, when they set the trap into
motion, it goes awry and tragedy stikes, and Stargazer's
plan to seek Falling Star Mountains is derailed.
On the starship, ABBI flees the tiger the computer has
awakened and finds refuge in a cave. She discovers a
narrow tunnel at the rear of the cave and escapes,
realizing the immensity of the arboretum as she gazes out
at another lake, a thick jungle spreading out for miles,
and a mountain range on the horizon. Before she can
relax however, the tiger and other carnivorous life forms
the computer awkens find her.
Commander Dath prepares for the planet drop. His
thinking is distorted with pain meds and no sooner do
negotiations begin then he insults the Zorians. A fight
ensues and most of the Kymion landing party escapes.
Dath feels it is of no consequence that lives are lost just
as long as they acquire the needed supplies. They are
unaware, however, that the soil and the water they
'borrowed' are tainted.
